DDaaP

Design for Data as a Product

DDaaP

About

Purpose and goal

The DDaaP project aims to develop a framework for designing vehicles with data as a core product, enabling scalable, data-driven services. Its purpose is to embed data-driven approaches early in vehicle development to enhance sustainability, efficiency, and competitiveness. Goals include integrating hardware, software, and data governance, reducing overdesign, and supporting a shift toward service-oriented, sustainable transport solutions through cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Expected effects and result

The project will deliver a framework for integrating data into vehicle development, enabling scalable, data-driven transport services. It contributes to sustainability, cost-efficiency and competitiveness through reduced over-sizing and better innovative risk assessment. The goal is a resilient transport industry that is ready for software-defined vehicles and service-integrated business models that meet future regulatory requirements such as ELV and REACH.

Planned approach and implementation

The project uses an interdisciplinary methodology that combines system and software architecture with data-driven design. The initiative is conducted through four work packages: project management, method research, framework development and result dissemination. The work is done iteratively: needs mapping, solution development and validation. Focus is on creating a methodology for integrating data into vehicle development. Volvo is in project lead, with Chalmers and the University of Gothenburg as research partners.
